What is FuneralShare?

FuneralShare is a nonprofit organization that helps Muslim families make funerals affordable by sharing the cost of one member’s funeral among all other living members.

We’ve developed a Shariah-compliant platform in collaboration with a network of Ulama and community leaders, supported by a secure, scalable software system that ensures transparency, trust, and communication.

Imagine a future where every Muslim has access to dignified, affordable funeral support.

Mission Statement

“To build a community of Muslims, united through a transparent, Shariah-compliant system to make each other’s funerals affordable through sharing.”

FuneralShare Through the Lens of Taʿāwun (Mutual Support in Islam)

Taʿāwun is an Arabic term that means mutual help, cooperation, and support. It is a core Islamic value rooted in the Quranic command:

“…Help one another in righteousness and piety…”
              (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:2)

What is Taʿāwun?

In Islamic ethics, Taʿāwun is more than charity—it’s about community responsibility. It reflects the belief that Muslims are interconnected, and that caring for one another is not just encouraged—it’s a spiritual duty.

FuneralShare = Taʿāwun in Action

FuneralShare is a direct expression of Taʿāwun, built on the idea that:

  • The Ummah supports one another during hardship, especially during death—a moment of intense emotional and financial stress.
  • Every member shares a small part of the cost when one member passes away.
  • No one carries the burden alone. Instead, the burden is spread gently across the entire community, making it easy for all.

A Practical Example of Taʿāwun

When a member dies and the funeral costs $8,000

  • If there are 8,000 members, each only contributes $1.
  • The grieving family receives full support—without ever needing to ask for help.

This is not a charity, nor a loan, nor insurance. It is structured compassion—a Shariah-compliant system of mutual aid that empowers Muslims to help one another proactively and with dignity.

Why This Matters
  • It removes the stigma or shame that can come with asking for financial help during loss.
  • It reflects the Prophetic teaching: “The believers, in their mutual compassion and mercy, are like a single body…”
  • It builds a self-sustaining ecosystem where the entire community shares responsibility for one another’s final rights.
FuneralShare as a Revived Sunnah of the Ummah

In an age where Muslims often turn to crowdfunding or struggle alone, FuneralShare revives the Sunnah of collective responsibility—rooted in the concept of Taʿāwun—by building a system that works before the crisis happens, not after.

This is what it means to be a living, caring Ummah:
We prepare, we share, and we support—together.

Why It Matters
  • The average U.S. funeral costs between $4,000–$7,000.
  • In major cities like NYC, LA, or Chicago, costs can exceed $10,000 due to land and service prices.
  • Most families are unprepared for the sudden financial burden a funeral creates.
